U.S. Elections Lap – Pak Review, from Home School in the Woods

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

Oh my goodness! I’ve been busting at the seams to share this review with you. This might be my favorite project yet. We received a U.S. Elections Lap – Pak through Home School in the Woods. I had never made a lap-pack or lapbook before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. We received a digital file to download, which contained detailed instructions, all the printouts needed to complete the activity, and complete with a booklet about U.S. elections to be printed and stored in an envelope on the back of the lap-pak.

I know so many families unexpectedly homeschooling these days. The governor of our state has ordered the closure of all K – 12 schools closed for the duration of the academic year. This U.S. Elections Lap – Pak and other products I list toward the end of this post from Home School in the Woods are great ways to get your learners engaged without making it feel like school. This specific project is especially timely since this is an election year, but any of their products would be great additions to keep your child(ren) busy and learning through activity.

Pssst… this product is geared toward grades 3 – 8, but this would be a wonderful project for adults, too!

As I mentioned, I’d never made a lapbook before, so I watched a few tutorials online. However, this project was far more extensive than any tutorial I watched, so I confess I was pretty overwhelmed to begin with. Once I got my groove, I breezed right through each project just fine. My other obstacle was that this digital file arrived while I was on an extensive trip and soon after my return stores were depleted of many supplies due to COVID – 19. I ended up having to order supplies online, which wasn’t ideal for this project, but I worked with what I had.

The pictures of the completed project are of the lapbook I made first to understand the directions, so it is not as fully colored or decorated as what our children are doing. We have three children working on the project; our 6th-grader, our 3rd-grader, and a sweet guest through foster/respite care. I checked out books from the library, recommended by Home School in the Woods to enhance learning during the project.

This particular product from Home School in the Woods is perfectly timed for our family, with this being an election year. We have learned much about the history and the process of our elections, and the children were genuinely engaged in the activities. Nearly every day, one of them would asked if “we get to work on our lapbook today.” Best of all, the price is right, at just $18.95 for the digital file. Supplies not included.

Projects included in the lapbook:

  • Suffrage
  • Stump Speaking
  • Election Day and Voting Process
  • Electoral College
  • National Conventions
  • Terms of Office
  • Candidates Platforms
  • “Vocabinet,” a “cabinet” with terms and definitions regarding elections

Here’s one with information about the Charlotte Mason approach toward education, which is one of the styles our family incorporates into our homeschool.

The company was founded by the Pak family, a homeschooling family that really lives and learn in the woods. They are the recipients of numerous awards, including for history supplements, best e-products, favorite history curriculum, and the Old Schoolhouse EE Award for Lapbooks, among others.

Many other homeschooling families reviewed this project and others from Home School in the Woods that I mentioned above. I’d love for you to click on the image below to see additional reviews about the U.S. Elections Lap – Pak and other products offered by this company.
