Beef and Biscuit
Here's an old fashioned comfort food recipe the whole family will love! Beef gravy wrapped up in biscuit dough and baked.
Ingredients
For the Beef Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons shortening or butter or lard
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup milk or water
For the Biscuit Dough
- 2 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions
For the Beef Mixture
- Melt shortening or lard and brown ground beef with onion and pepper. Season with salt and pepper. Add flour to ground beef mixture and stir well. Add milk OR water and stor until thickened. Set aside.
For the Biscuit Dough
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, and stir to combine. Cut in butter with a fork or pastry cutter. Add milk and use fork to stir until dough comes together to form a ball.
To Put Together
- Roll biscuit dough into a rectangle, like a jelly roll. About a quarter inch thick. Brush dough with melted butter and spread with meat mixture. Roll up like a jelly roll and cut into 1 1/4 inch slices. Place cut slices down into greased baking pan.I'm sure you could sprinkle some cheese on top, if you wanted. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
