Soft Pretzels

Soft Pretzels

A wonderful soft pretzel recipe that's fun to make with family and friends. A cheese sauce and honey mustard dip recipe to serve alongside. These are a little labor-intensive, but that's part of the fun of working together.

Ingredients

Pretzels

  • 3 cups warm water
  • 2 TBSP yeast
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 10 cups flour
  • 3 cups boiling water for dipping
  • 3 TBSP baking soda for boiling water

Cheese Sauce

  • 2 TBSP butter
  • 2 TBSP flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup cheese, Velveeta achieves the creamiest results
  • 1 tsp. mustard
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • melted butter for brushing
  • pretzel salt for sprinkling

Honey Mustard Dip

  • 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 1/2 cup honey

Instructions

Pretzels

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
1: Mix together water, yeast, brown sugar, and flour. Let rise 5 minutes and roll out pretzels. (You can watch a YouTube video on this or just roll out about 4 inch sticks instead of shaping them.)
2: Boil 3 cups water and add baking soda. Quickly dip pretzels into soda water, then place on parchment-lined baking pan and pat dry with paper towel.
3: Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and brush generously with melted butter and sprinkle with pretzel salt. Or you can also roll in a cinnamon/sugar mixture or any combination of preferred seasonings.

Cheese Sauce

  • In 2-quart sauce pan, melt butter. Add flour and stir until bubbly. Slowly add milk and stir until thick and bubbly. Add cheese, mustard, salt, and pepper, and stir until smooth. (As mentioned above, Velveeta cheese makes the creamiest results.)

Honey Mustard Dip

  • Mix together thoroughly. Adjust ratio of ingredients to taste. Refrigerate.
